Dan Shen Pian
Dan Shen is bitter in taste, slightly cold in nature, acts on heart and liver channels. It is known to decrease the blood's ability to clot in at least two ways: first, it limits the stickiness of blood components known as platelets, and it also decreases the production of fibrin—threads of protein that trap blood cells to form clots. Thus it is useful in treating menopause problems and uterine fibroids. It has been noted by authorities on TCM that this herb "releases" congealed blood, as shown by dark-red clots during menses, and eases pelvic congestion.
Modern studies have shown that Danshen has functionings such as anti-platelet aggregation, antioxidant, cholesterol-lowering and prevention of atherosclerosis etc. It has widely potential clinical applications.
